From Rags to Riches – How to Use Silk Scarves and Shawls to Glam up Casual Attire
Everyone has her own signature look and style. Opening her closet will reveal where a woman’s preference lies. For some, sedate business suits and frothy cocktail dresses declare their major fashion statements; for others, it is all about the casual look indicated by casual jeans, leggings and informal skirts. For the casual one, dressing up for an occasion may prove to be a problem. Yet there is a readily available solution - hand painted scarves and shawls to choose from.
Dressing Up Your Jeans
Blue jeans were once frowned upon. Today, they show up everywhere. It is not the jeans that present the problem. The cut, the make and the style matter. Yet, what is more important is how you wear them and with what.
Try a simple revitalization using a long, colorful, silk scarf. Take the material and feed it through the belt loops of your jeans. Select which start and end position your prefer. You can either center the material at the front or string it so it can tie off center at the side and hips. You can also continue to loop the material so it has no visible beginning or end or leave the material hanging loose at any spot along the belt.
If you wish, you can use a small piece of silk fabric. Instead of threading, attach it to a belt and let hang. You can also loop it through a single belt loop and let dangle. This will add a splash of color to a faded pair of denim jeans.
Brighten Up Leggings With Silk Scarves and Shawls
Leggings sit in everyone’s closet or dresser drawers. They come out as yoga wear or to relax in. These are comfortable items of clothing. Yet, with a single silk scarf or shawl, you can make a fashion statement of them.
Dawn the leggings and a chic top. Fold the scarf or shawl into a triangular shape. Drape it on your hips or wrap it around your waist. Tie securely at an appropriate angle. Add ballet pumps or high heels and you are now sporting fashionable and very chic attire.
How To Revive A Plain, Casual Skirt With Silk Shawls and Scarves
The casual skirt – plain in demeanor, it spends its time fitting in. It is not intent on impressing anyone. It is simply there to perform a function. Yet, this common piece of apparel can undergo a revival simply and painlessly. Take a silk scarf and twine it through its belt loops. This, as in the case of jeans, will add a splash of vibrancy. Alternatively, overlay the skirt with one or more shawls to create the effect of depth and color.
It’s What’s On Top
If you do not want to tie shawls or thread them to liven up your casual wardrobe, you can employ them in another fashion. The traditional way to wear a hand-dyed scarf is around the neck. Tie a beautifully hand-painted one in place. It will detract from your worn jeans or plain skirt. If you prefer, a different, yet classic look, drape a hand-painted shawl over your head, neck and shoulders or just your shoulders. The effect is both elegant and stunning for even the most casual attire.
